Prop 8 is Hate - Vote "No"

There is no other way around it. It's hateful and it's another inconsistent message brought to us by intolerant people.

For so many years, the Christian right has tried to tell us that homosexuality was a sin. They say their reason is that it says so in the bible. The book they reference is Leviticus. If you go to Leviticus in the Old Testament, it actually has a lot of rules not just against men lying with men, but no adultery, no lying with a woman menstruating, references against interracial marriage, do not kill, etc... So why do people feel they have the right to pick and choose what is right and what isn't?

How can someone against abortion but be for the dealth penalty?

Why do they say Sarah Palin's family is "off limits" in this election, but my family and many other families are up for popular vote?

I think it comes down to culture. How did the Culture of the far right get so mean?

A friend of mine, Maria Nieto, wrote this great article concerning Prop 8. It's called "Marriage and Biology". Please check it out.

And finally, another meaningful reference that seems to have been forgotten lately by the "Christians" who have poured so much money into hateful prop 8: "Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself"—Matthew 19:19.

I will never ever understand the opposition to same sex marriage by people who claim to be christians. It just makes no feasible sense to me at all.

MIchael says it is fear. People fear what they do not know and what they do not understand, and what may be a part of themselves that they deny because otherwise they would have to hate themselves. So they hate others instead.

I don't care what anyone believes, but I have no tolerance for people inflicting their relgious beliefs on individual rights.

It really makes my blood boil...it does.

On another note, Kudos to Jerry Brown. He changed the wording on the prop so that it is more representative of the truth.

Brown has his detractors, but he keeps showing he is not afraid to make bold moves (like suing the feds over auto emissions)

Preach it, Sister!

As you pointed out from Matthew, the greatest commandment for those who follow Christ is to love God and love our neighbors as ourselves (and "neighbors" is meant to convey even people we don't get along with, disagree with, who are different than us, or who treat us with disrespect, in addition to those we feel "neighborly" with).

And, many of us have obviously failed miserably in this - so badly that we have been seen not only as failing to love, but as hateful. God have mercy on us, is all I can say.

I will be voting a resounding "No".

I think Jesus would be ashamed to have his name thrown about by the people who do it the loudest.

In the gospels there are passages that say men should abandon their wives and love Jesus as a wife would love a husband. No surprise that part doesn't get quoted a lot. If you're going to say you live your life by the book you better know the whole book, no?

PS - I think it is the gospels; it has been a long time since I read the passages that I'm talking about and I don't have a copy of the book handy...

I had to hold my tongue to keep from getting nasty when I got a call from a woman from "Yes on 8" about a week ago. Tough to be civil at times.

I was never really a Brad Pitt fan, meh, you know, he's blond and kind of generic.

But then he went and threw down some cash to defeat Prop Hate & just earned some points with me.

I'm no history buff, but wasn't homosexuality around much longer before Christianity? Nobody seemed to have any issues with it then. ugh. i'm with velo bella. Nothing boils my blood more than pushing religous beliefs. Or the combination of church and state. Every election year, seems like every character out of a Flannery O'Connor story shows up in the media. And my worst nightmare comes alive: realizing that these characters are not fictional.

i guess that's a "no" for me, mmmkay.
