just like the movies

We didn't make the drive to Aptos today and instead rode our regular ride through the ugly flats of San Pablo, up Miner Rd., through Lafayette, onto the bike path to Moraga, and then through Canyon. In Moraga, I noticed a "command post" set up in the parking lot next to the watershed reservoir. For some reason, I thought it was a mock set up for practicing. Don't ask why? Later as we rode through Canyon, we noticed several sheriff cars, search and rescue vans, search dogs, and more sheriffs on foot, in ATVs, and on motorcycles.

We wondered what was happening. At one point before the climb up Pinehurst, the sheriff had stopped a car. So, I stopped too and finally got the chance to ask what was going on.

Turns out, they were searching for Nina Reiser who has been missing from Oakland since September of this year. Her husband was arrested last month. The sheriff told me they were making sure Mrs. Reiser's body wasn't in Canyon. I mentioned something about the Prime Suspect series, and he said they had their PS.

As we continued the ride and saw all the search and rescue teams, it seemed just like something we had seen in Prime Suspect. I sure hope they find her and find out who killed her.

So THAT is who it was. We rode down Pinehurst this morning & the officer we talked to said they were searching for "the family who disappeared." We thought it was the family who went up to Oregon.

I wish they didn't have to be looking for either.

bbelf-I thought that it might have been that family too before I asked. It's pretty sad thay they have to be looking for anyone.

they were looking for her last month along skyline too. wonder why they're just now looking down on pinehurst.

i've always thought pinehurst would be the perfect place for no one to ever find me if i ever got hit by a car and knocked over the edge.

you think those things, down there alone early in the mornings. and because an older friend in his mid 50's who i ride with sometimes once told me that one time a motorcyclist went off the road on pinehurst and they didn't find him till years later.

and (this is a long comment), ippoc, have you seen the old karmin ghia down one of the sides of pinehurst nearer to redwood road?

and, once morgan actually heard someone yelling for help while he was riding up pinehurst almost near the top at night. he got off his bike and climbed down and saw a car and a guy hanging out of the drivers window! he'd driven' over the edge! morgan called 911 and waited till the police and fire engines got there to pull the guy and his car up.

lots of crazy pinehurst stories.

sorry for the long comment.

lauren-i think that pinehurst is best ridden with friends...yes, I have seen the car, white top right? and one time I saw a car that had fallen over the cliff and landed on one of the bigger switchbacks...maybe they are just looking now since Pinehurst had been closed for a long time? who knows...

Did you ever go through when Pinehurst was closed to traffic & they pulled all the cars out of the ravines? It was pretty wild -- there was more stuff down there than you could shake a stick at.
