just joking...I only go commando with the red shorts...
needless to say, denise, it is all of our goals to be POTW at some time next year
VB, are you german or austrian? I've seen you refer to both as "your people" in the past week or so....or are you both?
I think VB is Bavarian too
I was born in Munich and thats where all of my family (on my mom's side) still lives. Munich is the capital of Bavaria. Its also very close to the Austrian border and the people from Munich really feel more kinship with Tirol than they do with the rest of Germany.
There is a seccessionist movement in Bavaria, but it never really gets very far. Mostly because the bavarians are too busy drinking and stuff. Bavaria lost its independence when one of its kings, Loony Ludwig, bankrupted the state by spending all its money on lavish castles (Neuschwanstein is one of those catsles). Funny thing is, the bavarians still revere their Loony Louie. My mom has pictures of him all over her house.
Anyway, there is this little town in Austria not too far from Munich called Gleins. My great grandparents are from there. We visit that region a lot, and I remember the last time we did, we went to the cemetary and almost half of the headstones had the name Gleinser (which is my mom's maiden name.) The cemetary dates back about 400 years. And in a moment of reverence, my mom looked at me, waved her arms over the headstones and said all formal like "these are your people" And it just cracked me up. And now its my own little inside joke.
This is a little restaurant/Inn that we sometimes hike up to when we go there.
VB, very cool! thanks for sharing. I thought for a minute you were just shooting for total world domination.
